Our biggest challenges when planning a wedding during the Covid-19 pandemic 2020

Since March 2020, it has been a wild roller coaster ride. A roller coaster ride filled with doubt and uncertainty, thanks to the infamous disease Covid-19. And like most things during these unprecedented times, it has been hard to plan our wedding. Below I’ll go through the main challenges we are facing when planning a wedding in Sydney during the Covid-19 pandemic 2020.

1 - Uncertainty

Our biggest challenge is uncertainty. With so many factors that are not within our control such as waiting on our government to ease restrictions, the risk of a second wave, our vendor’s response to government announcements or a second wave makes it extremely difficult to push forward with our wedding planning.

2 - Communication

Another big challenge we are facing is communicating with our guests and vendors developments to our wedding. As the government provides timely announcements to the easing of restrictions in NSW, we are constantly having to update our guests and vendors anything major that will impact the outcome of our wedding. It is difficult because we plan to have 200+ guests, and our vendors are aplenty, so the need to communicate to so many people takes time and effort to ensure all parties are up to date.

3 - Misalignment

Our last big challenge is misalignment. Misalignment between vendors and our guests. For example, our church venue may only accommodate 100 guests, whereas our reception can accommodate 180 guests. Or, our videographer is happy to accommodate a change of date without additional charges, however, our photo booth provider may not. This is the same for our guest’s comfortability in attending events that have large crowds. Some guests are happy to attend, others may not.

It goes without saying that planning a wedding is already challenging. Having to plan a wedding during the Covid-19 pandemic 2020 adds an extra level of complexity, with the biggest challenges being uncertainty, communication and misalignment. Uncertainty of not knowing what to plan, communicating to all parties any wedding updates, and the misalignment between vendors and guests.

xx Wish us luck xx
